IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM BUSINESS LICENSING AUTHORITY

NEW REGULATIONS FOR CONVEYANCERS

As of 1 July 2008, new laws came into effect requiring Victorian Conveyancers who are not Australian Legal Practitioners or Incorporated Legal Practices to be licensed with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA).  Between 1 July 2008 and 30 September 2008 transitional arrangements are in place where Conveyancers may apply for an unrestricted or a provisional licence during this period.  From 1 October 2008, only unrestricted licences can be applied for.

Application forms and a guide detailing information about the licensing process can be found on the BLA's website at www.bla.vic.gov.au or by contacting the Property Team, Licensing Branch, Consumer Affairs Victoria on  1300 135 452.

CONVEYANCERS ACT 2006 IS INTRODUCED ON 1 JULY 2008

Applications for a License are available on the Business Licensing Authority's (BLA) website.  See below under 'Conveyancers Guide from BLA'  for the link to the site.

CONVEYANCERS GUIDE FROM BLA

The Business Licensing Authority (BLA) has published a 'Conveyancers Guide' to assist the public and potential Licensees in relation to the forthcoming introduction of the Conveyancers Act.  The BLA tells us that the Application form referred to in the Guide will be available by 24th June 2008.

CONGRATULATIONS!  E-CONVEYANCING GOES LIVE

Congratulations are in order for A.I.C. Members, Gayle Nancarrow of GLN Conveyancing and David Cummins of Rainbow Conveyancing who, on May 12th 2008, successfully achieved the first e-conveyancing matter in Australia (and possibly the world).  After many years work and consultation with Land Exchange Victoria, the first transaction took place at 10am on line, involving settlement, financial settlement and registration of the Title in the purchaser's name all of which was finalised within 30 minutes.

The dedicated team involved in the Stage 2 Pilot are to be congratulated and will go down in history.

VETASSESS (Vocational Educational Training Assessment Services), in conjunction with CAV and BLA have developed a service to assess experienced Conveyancers against the required competencies which make up a significant portion of the Diploma of Financial Services (Conveyancing).

Application is online and the assessment will be conducted through a process whereby applicants submit evidence to demonstrate competency against the standards, sit a test and attend an interview with a qualified assessor.

The VETASSESS process is aimed at experienced Conveyancers and eliminates the commitment and costs relating to training in areas already familiar to the applicant.  VETASSESS award successful candidates with a nationally recognised 'Statement of Attainment' which can be used for both BLA licensing purposes and to gain exemptions when enrolling in the full Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification.
