Commercial Stamp Duty Reform

The Commercial and Industrial Property Tax Reform Bill 2024 will transform commercial property tax by abolishing the upfront cost of transfer stamp duty and replacing it with a Commercial and Industrial Property Tax (CIPT.)

The reforms are expected to become law in early May and start on 1 July 2024.  Given the significance of these reforms, the implementation period is very short, and practitioners need to be aware of the changes. CIPT will apply from the first land tax year after the 10th anniversary of the date that land enters the CIPT scheme.
